Hi!

I'm Mutsumi,

I am a licensed massage therapist, certified in Jikiden Reiki and hypnotherapy, and the founder of North County Therapeutic Massage. As a trauma-informed massage therapist and a strong advocate for mental health, I understand the complexity of pain beyond just physical discomfort.

I am passionate about providing an inclusive and compassionate care that is client-led which promotes self-awareness, mind-body connection, sense of hope and empowerment.

When I'm not working, you will find me singing and dancing with my babyboy who absolutely loves to explore the world as is and helping other mamas connect to local resources as a PSI (Postpartum Support International) support coordinator.

I'm grateful for the work I get to do and the amazing moments I get to share with others. I love what it allows me to do, which is to provide a true sense of safety and comfort by bypassing all the extra steps one would have to take otherwise by talking or going through multiple resources. I get to touch and nurture where it most longs for care, that is our center.

Whatever it is you're seeking a relief for, I'm committed to making your journey a little easier.

FAQs

Common Question #1

I'm not comfortable taking off my underwear due to past trauma.  Do I absolutely have to?

Although it will allow me to work important body parts like glutes easier, it's absolutely okay to keep your underwear on. The room will be comfortably dim and you will be professionally draped to ensure comfort and privacy. At any moment you feel uncomfortable, please let me know and I can adjust the draping to match your comfort level as well.  It's very important to me that you feel safe in this space.  Please don't hesitate to speak to me about any problems during the session :)

Common Question #2

My depression/anxiety make it hard to talk and I don't really want to talk during the session. Do I have to?

When booking your first appointment, you can specify with me  "no talk" preference for your session. We will go over your treatment goal before we begin your session so that we are on the same page. If at any moment, you would like to adjust the pressure or make any other adjustments for your session, you can speak to me when you are ready :) Otherwise, I will let you soak in the relaxation and enjoy your therapy session with no interruption.

Common Question #3

So is this the same as talking to a psychotherapist?

It's very important to differentiate psychotherapy and massage therapy. While I have vast understanding of trauma and all that goes with mental health, my scope of practice is to stay with the body and be a compassionate listener.  I like to see myself as a helpful facilitator in this role. During the session, I will hold a gentle space for you and you are free to share anything that may come up. If the feelings get overwhelming, I may simply guide you back to your body by asking what that may feel like in your body, such as tightness in the chest, or guide you back to the belly breaths for grounding. If you feel that you may want to speak with a psychotherapist, I can also make a referral to culturally competent licensed psychotherapist.
